Thousand in tribute to river-plunge boy

MORE than 1,000 people have joined a Facebook group’s tribute to Patrick Piggott.
The 14-year-old, of Baker Street, Alvaston, was found dead in a van that had plunged into the River Derwent on Sunday, July 18.
Now people have left their condolences on a group called R.I.P. Patrick Piggott.
A tribute left by his older sister said: “All I can do is cry. I really can’t get over that my baby brother has gone and he isn’t coming back. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think about my baby brother.”
A tribute from Stacey Smith said: “Pat, you will always be missed by everyone. You were only a baby to me and the rest of the family. Missing you so much. Sleep tight. Love you always Nunu.”
Nicole Basi said: “You didn’t deserve to go at this age. You never deserved to go anyway. When I was upset you used to be the one to make me smile.”
And Michelle Booth said: “So sorry to hear of the sad loss of a lovely lad

CARES holding pancake fundraiser on Saturday

On Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the CARES board of directors will hold its second pancake breakfast at Applebee’s in Southpark Mall. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
We held the first pancake breakfast back in October. Thanks to everyone who came, we were able to raise the money we needed to cover a funding gap, had a lot of fun and came out smelling like maple syrup.
This year is nothing but gaps. So, CARES board of directors will be out there again slinging pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee. The service may be a bit spotty, but the food is great!
